School Note 26 October

Sky Dome

2nd– 6th Classes have SkyDome tomorrow. A mobile planetarium. This is paid for out of the School Book Scheme. Thank you to everyone who has fully paid their contribution.


The school closes on Friday, and will re-open on Monday 7 November. Please take some time to call in to the school and see all of the Halloween art and writing the children have been doing, displayed in the school hall and corridors.

PA Halloween Disco

The Parent Association annual Halloween Disco will be held on Friday. Fancy Dress a must but no hand held extras for safety purposes. 7.00-8.00 pm for Infants to Second Class, 8.00-9.00 pm for Third to Sixth. Parents of Junior Classes are to remain in the hall. Parent Helpers welcomed. Children must be dropped at the school door and collected from the school door at the end by an adult. Price €3 per child. €5 per family.

Halloween Activity Camp

A multi-activity camp will be held in the school over the half term on 2nd – 5th November. Football-sport-dance-art-chess-table tennis. Price €25 per child, €15 each additional in family, €10 daily drop-in. Contact Kathleen on 0863956388 if interested.

Halloween Tennis Camp.

If enough interest there will be a Tennis Camp Tuesday – Friday at Tennis Courts 1.30 – 2.30. contact Mary on 0872290136.

Nature Watch

For anyone interested in the wildlife that exists around us, and particularly the very hard to spot Red Grouse that lives on the hills around the school there is an informative film being shown in the Ballroom of Romance at 8.00 pm on Saturday 29 October.


4th – 6th class parents attended a discussion on these topics on Tuesday evening. Anyone who was unable to attend there is a note on the School Blog, together with a Questionnaire for parents to complete. If you are unable to access the Questionnaire a hard copy is available from the school office.

Youth Drug and Alcohol Education and Prevention Programme

We are once again making this available to 6th class children. A six week programme starting Monday 7 November from 3.00 – 4.00 pm. Places are limited so please return the application forms to us by tomorrow, at the lastest.

Meeting of 4th , 5th and 6th class parents October 25th

On Tuesday October 25th an information meeting for parents of 4th to 6th classes was held and the following issues discussed . Those who could not attend are requested to make an appointment with the school principal to receive the information . A copy of the survey given to parents is included underneath .

  1. Socialisation ….how children make friends and preventing bullying.
  2. Children’s Use of Social Media and the danger of Cyber bullying in particular.
  3. Physical and mental health Issues for children .
  4. Sexuality and Body Changes from 4th to 6th . Issues relating to hygiene and peer conversations.
  5. Religion and School Ethos .
  6. Preparation for secondary school .
  7. Gaeilge and Gaeltacht . Should a Gaeltacht trip be facilitated for our pupils .
  8. Preparation for Confirmation ( 6th Class Catholic pupils )  Hosted by Fr Oliver Kelly and Sr. Kathleen Mc Garrigal.

Parent General Information

Reminder there is a meeting for 4th to 6th class parents on tomorrow night from  7pm to 8pm  in the 6th class room. Those enrolling for Confirmation then have a meeting in the hall with Fr. Oliver and Sr. Kathleen  .

There will be a Hallaween Camp on in the school from Wednesday to Friday during mid-term . Forms go out today.

We close next week for mid-term and reopen on Monday November 7th .

October 19th

The online payment system for all school payments is now finally up and running successfully and we received our first 2 e payments for books today . Thank you to all who have paid to date either in full or part  .

You should have received a text with e payment details. If you are not receiving texts please phone the office asap

Please contact the principal in confidence if you have a book payment outstanding to make arrangements for payment as we wish to have all payment either full or by arrangement before Friday October 28th.

We are also using the e mail system for as much communication as possible as it ensures the message goes directly to parents as many notes are mislaid. Our system shows us if an e mail has been opened.  If you do not receive the e mail let us know .We would be delighted to have more families using e mail as a contact method so if you use e mail share it with us .

For those who do not wish to use e mail the note will go home as usual each week on Wednesday or Thursday normally . We ask parents to always sign the child’s journal –NOTE RECEIVED

Our thanks to Lock up alarms for the CCTV system now in place monitoring entrance and exit roadway and Zebra crossing .

Thanks to all parents for the brilliant response to the Parent association recipe request . A book will be prepared for publication before Christmas .

Parent Teacher meetings are ongoing this week and all parents should have been scheduled on or before Thursday this week.

Please note that we ask that parents /guardians cannot drop pupils off late after 9:20 or collect pupils early without signing the book outside the hall office. We also remind those driving onto the school grounds to use the car park properly.

  1. Do not park in the set down area. Use a parking place and if one is not available wait at the sign until one becomes available .
  2. Use the footpaths when walking with your child . Do not cross the car park . If you do you run the risk of teaching your child to run out in front of a car.

Do not smoke ANYWHERE on school premises .

An information night for all parents of 4th, 5th and 6th class pupils will take place on next Tuesday October 25th at 7 pm in the school. For 4th and 5th parents the meeting is focussed on the growing up process for boys and girls in the classes, issues relating to hygiene , relationships , peer influence  and bullying . Cyber bullying is a constant concern now and parents REALLY NEED to be clued in . We ask every household to keep the 21st of November free for a parent workshop on Internet Safety .

There is a Confirmation meeting at 8pm for the parents of 6th class pupils who wish to enrol their child for the sacrament next May .

This is Maths week and the perfect time as the nights get longer to take out the board games  and cards .

Halloween writing stories and poems are being prepared and will be on display next week in the halls and corridors . Please take the opportunity to call in to see your childs work some time next week.

Midterm break is the week from October 31st to the 4th of November . Details of the P.A. Halloween disco will be sent out next week .

Parents interested in helping out with Chess club this year should contact the office .

5th and 6th class Information night

An information night for all parents of 4th , 5th and 6th class pupils will take place on Tuesday October 25th at 7 pm in the school .

The following areas will be covered

  1. The Issue of Bullying and in particular Cyber Bullying . An ongoing problem that everyone needs to be aware of especially in the senior classes .
  2. Relationships and Sexuality Education . The 6th class will be taught the R.S.E. lessons on the facts of life before Christmas . All parents will be advised of the preparation needed for the lessons .
  3. Gaeltacht Trip . For the past 2 years the 6th class children were given the opportunity of a Gaeltacht Trip in June for 1 week .This is optional and costs  €300. We would like to see if this years parents /guardians are interested sending their child on the trip .
  4. Confirmation . Fr Oliver will meet all the parents of those who will be requesting Confirmation this year and all details of Dates , times and Be my Witness workshop preparation will be explained on the night .

School Note 13 October

Parents Association

The Parent Association have had a huge response to their PA School Childrens Recipe Book which will be published before Christmas this year. Thank you to all who participated..

Junior Foroige 5th and 6th Class Parents /Guardians.

Registration for any children aged 10-12 is on tonight from 6-7 pm in the Bee Park Community Centre. Cost €20 per child. A Parent/Guardian must complete the registration form.

Children Helping Children Prayer Service.

Third Class are attending Children Helping Children Prayer Service in Sligo Cathedral on Friday at 12.00 pm. A National Day of Prayer for Children. The first time outside Dublin.

Schools Cross Country

Children who are in the Connaught Finals are running on Saturday. 12 o’clock at Sligo IT. Aine McLoughlin, Annabeth Drohan, Muireann Killalea, Aoife Maguire, Jack Kelly, Luke Farrell, and two teams Girls – Aine McLoughlin, Annabeth Drohan, Muireann Killalea, Joolz O’Reilly, Gemma Farrell, Sarah McGagh, and boys – Jack Kelly, Luke Farrell, James Hughes, Conal Maguire and Barry O’Hara. Please be at the venue by 11.00am, to register and walk the course. We wish them every success and support would be very welcomed.

School Note 4 October

Schools Cross Country

Schools cross Country on Thursday this week in Leitrim Village.

3rd and 4th class 1000m, 5th and 6th class 1200m.  Also race walk for 5th and 6th.

The teams and individuals who qualify to take part in Connacht finals on October 15th in Sligo .

€3 per child for the bus please.  The entry fee of €4 per child is paid by the school.  The Bus leaves the school at 9:20 and will be back by home time.

Parents Association

The Parent Association ask all our parents to send in a recipe for the PA School Childrens Recipe Book which will be published before Christmas this year.  Please put your recipe in an envelope marked Parent Association Recipe collection.  Parent Association Meeting tonight. Contact a representative if you have ideas or suggestions.

Cyberbullying 5th and 6th Class Parents /Guardians.

We ask parents to keep the night of Monday November 21st free for a cyber bullying information and prevention workshop.  We will ask that EVERY household with 5th and 6th class pupils are represented.  Bullying and in particular Cyber bullying have always been important issues for parents to be aware of in relation to their children.  On November 21st the pupils in 5th and 6th will also take part in a workshop during the school day.

More Activities for Children.

Afterschool Gardening for children of all ages will start this Friday with Paula directly after school at 1:45.  Paula has already started gardening basics with our 2nd and 6th classes during school.  Details from the office.

Childrens Tennis Coaching starts next Sunday October 9th.  Contact Mary 087 2290136 for details.

Chess Club restarts on w/e October 28th. Contact the office if you are interested in helping out with supervision/organisation.  Coaching will be taken care of by Colm O Mhuireagan
