Note – 13 December

Well done to the Chess teams who did so well in Dublin at the Mike Germaine Chess Team Event .  This is another strong performance following the top placings in the Chess for All event in Ballinasloe last week . Well done also to the 5th and 2nd classes who played Sligo School Project and St. Aidens Ballintrillick on Friday last in the Checkmates Competition . 

The Children’s Cookery Book organised by the  Parent association is still available . We ask every household to support this fundraiser . Books can be purchased online or by sending €15 to the office in an envelope marked Cook Book . The book will be sent home with the child

 This Friday we have a dress up for Christmas / Christmas Jumper day in aid of the Children’s hospital in Crumlin. We ask families to make a contribution to the charity on this day.


Carol singing for classes 1st to 6th continues this week and next The different classes will sing in the HSE Offices this Wednesday , the farmers market on Friday , Our Lady’s Hospital Monday and in Arus Brefni on Tuesday  .


The Infant classes will put on a little Christmas show for parents /Guardians next Tuesday at 1pm .

All parents are welcome to come visit the school before Christmas to see the room decorations  and the art work done by the classes this year .

A School Children’s Carol Service will take place in the Church on Wednesday December 21st at 7pm to 7:40. This will involve all children 1st to 6th class whose parents would like them involved .


The school will close for Christmas on Thursday December 22nd at 1pm . Children can be collected by parents /guardians any time following the visit of Santa that day. Please send  5 Euro per child or a maximum of 10 Euro per family in a sealed envelope marked Parent Association.  Eight parents/guardians are also requested to assist on the day . School Note 1 December

The Parent Association Family Cook Book is available. As this is the only fundraiser planned for this Christmas they ask that each household purchase 1 or more of the books. It is a nice Christmas present stocking filler and gives a nice selection of different tastes among our community.

The book can be paid for online and will be sent home with your child. Otherwise they can be purchased from the office €15 each, or is available in local shops around town.

 Christmas Arrangements.

Carol Singing: The pupils are invited to go carol singing at the following venues

7 December – Supervalu (Evening), 14 December – HSE Building

Dates to be decided – Arus Brefni, Our Lady’s Hospital. All classes 2nd to 6th will be given an opportunity to have the experience.

8 December School Mass for this Catholic Holy day of obligation. All Catholic children (only) will attend 11:30am mass on this day. The school will also be decorated for Christmas on this day.

16 December – Christmas Jumper/Dress up day. All staff, parents and pupils are asked to put on the Christmas jumper or other Christmas wear on the day in support of our Lady’s Childrens Hospital in Crumlin. A contribution of €2 is recommended from everyone on this.

Infant Classes will have a small Christmas Show for parents in the school hall on Tuesday 20 December.

21 December – Red Bus Theatre will present a Christmas Show for all classes. Called ‘The Night Show ‘, the show explains the meaning of Christmas from a Christian perspective.

21 December A School Christmas Carol Service will take place in the Church at 7-7:45pm involving all children 1st to 6th classes.

22 December (Thursday) – Santa will visit the school between 10am and 12.30pm (we hope) and following the visit parents are welcome to collect their child. School closes at 1pm.

Chess Club. Any parent who wishes to have their child attend the Mike Germaine Chess Team Event in Dublin on Sunday December 11th should let Colm know at Chess Club tonight. A bus will run if there are enough interested. If parents wished to avail of the bus to Dublin for the day shopping then let us know.

Reminder. Please park properly in the school car park and try to ensure your child always wears a hi-viz vest at this time of the year. We have a visitor from the RSA coming to the school on 11 January to talk to the children, and their parents about Road Safety.

School Note 26 October

Sky Dome

2nd– 6th Classes have SkyDome tomorrow. A mobile planetarium. This is paid for out of the School Book Scheme. Thank you to everyone who has fully paid their contribution.


The school closes on Friday, and will re-open on Monday 7 November. Please take some time to call in to the school and see all of the Halloween art and writing the children have been doing, displayed in the school hall and corridors.

PA Halloween Disco

The Parent Association annual Halloween Disco will be held on Friday. Fancy Dress a must but no hand held extras for safety purposes. 7.00-8.00 pm for Infants to Second Class, 8.00-9.00 pm for Third to Sixth. Parents of Junior Classes are to remain in the hall. Parent Helpers welcomed. Children must be dropped at the school door and collected from the school door at the end by an adult. Price €3 per child. €5 per family.

Halloween Activity Camp

A multi-activity camp will be held in the school over the half term on 2nd – 5th November. Football-sport-dance-art-chess-table tennis. Price €25 per child, €15 each additional in family, €10 daily drop-in. Contact Kathleen on 0863956388 if interested.

Halloween Tennis Camp.

If enough interest there will be a Tennis Camp Tuesday – Friday at Tennis Courts 1.30 – 2.30. contact Mary on 0872290136.

Nature Watch

For anyone interested in the wildlife that exists around us, and particularly the very hard to spot Red Grouse that lives on the hills around the school there is an informative film being shown in the Ballroom of Romance at 8.00 pm on Saturday 29 October.


4th – 6th class parents attended a discussion on these topics on Tuesday evening. Anyone who was unable to attend there is a note on the School Blog, together with a Questionnaire for parents to complete. If you are unable to access the Questionnaire a hard copy is available from the school office.

Youth Drug and Alcohol Education and Prevention Programme

We are once again making this available to 6th class children. A six week programme starting Monday 7 November from 3.00 – 4.00 pm. Places are limited so please return the application forms to us by tomorrow, at the lastest.

October 19th

The online payment system for all school payments is now finally up and running successfully and we received our first 2 e payments for books today . Thank you to all who have paid to date either in full or part  .

You should have received a text with e payment details. If you are not receiving texts please phone the office asap

Please contact the principal in confidence if you have a book payment outstanding to make arrangements for payment as we wish to have all payment either full or by arrangement before Friday October 28th.

We are also using the e mail system for as much communication as possible as it ensures the message goes directly to parents as many notes are mislaid. Our system shows us if an e mail has been opened.  If you do not receive the e mail let us know .We would be delighted to have more families using e mail as a contact method so if you use e mail share it with us .

For those who do not wish to use e mail the note will go home as usual each week on Wednesday or Thursday normally . We ask parents to always sign the child’s journal –NOTE RECEIVED

Our thanks to Lock up alarms for the CCTV system now in place monitoring entrance and exit roadway and Zebra crossing .

Thanks to all parents for the brilliant response to the Parent association recipe request . A book will be prepared for publication before Christmas .

Parent Teacher meetings are ongoing this week and all parents should have been scheduled on or before Thursday this week.

Please note that we ask that parents /guardians cannot drop pupils off late after 9:20 or collect pupils early without signing the book outside the hall office. We also remind those driving onto the school grounds to use the car park properly.

  1. Do not park in the set down area. Use a parking place and if one is not available wait at the sign until one becomes available .
  2. Use the footpaths when walking with your child . Do not cross the car park . If you do you run the risk of teaching your child to run out in front of a car.

Do not smoke ANYWHERE on school premises .

An information night for all parents of 4th, 5th and 6th class pupils will take place on next Tuesday October 25th at 7 pm in the school. For 4th and 5th parents the meeting is focussed on the growing up process for boys and girls in the classes, issues relating to hygiene , relationships , peer influence  and bullying . Cyber bullying is a constant concern now and parents REALLY NEED to be clued in . We ask every household to keep the 21st of November free for a parent workshop on Internet Safety .

There is a Confirmation meeting at 8pm for the parents of 6th class pupils who wish to enrol their child for the sacrament next May .

This is Maths week and the perfect time as the nights get longer to take out the board games  and cards .

Halloween writing stories and poems are being prepared and will be on display next week in the halls and corridors . Please take the opportunity to call in to see your childs work some time next week.

Midterm break is the week from October 31st to the 4th of November . Details of the P.A. Halloween disco will be sent out next week .

Parents interested in helping out with Chess club this year should contact the office .

Parents Association

The Parent Association have had a huge response to their PA School Childrens Recipe Book which will be published before Christmas this year. Thank you to all who participated..

Junior Foroige 5th and 6th Class Parents /Guardians.

Registration for any children aged 10-12 is on tonight from 6-7 pm in the Bee Park Community Centre. Cost €20 per child. A Parent/Guardian must complete the registration form.

Children Helping Children Prayer Service.

Third Class are attending Children Helping Children Prayer Service in Sligo Cathedral on Friday at 12.00 pm. A National Day of Prayer for Children. The first time outside Dublin.

Schools Cross Country

Children who are in the Connaught Finals are running on Saturday. 12 o’clock at Sligo IT. Aine McLoughlin, Annabeth Drohan, Muireann Killalea, Aoife Maguire, Jack Kelly, Luke Farrell, and two teams Girls – Aine McLoughlin, Annabeth Drohan, Muireann Killalea, Joolz O’Reilly, Gemma Farrell, Sarah McGagh, and boys – Jack Kelly, Luke Farrell, James Hughes, Conal Maguire and Barry O’Hara. Please be at the venue by 11.00am, to register and walk the course. We wish them every success and support would be very welcomed.

September 2016 School Note

School opening and closing times are as follows .

Assembly all classes from 9am to 9:15. Doors open at 9am.

Classes start at 9:20 sharp.

Infant classes finish at 1:45pm Monday to Thursday and 1:30 on Fridays . 1st to 6th classes finish at 2:55pm Monday to Thursday and at 1:45 on Fridays .

The Board take no responsibility for children before 9am and after 3pm and parents are asked not to have children on the premises before or after school times unsupervised.

Infants are only dismissed when collected by an approved person selected by the parent /guardian .Children in 1st to 6th classes leave unaccompanied after school.

We ask parents to use the safe walkway from the church car park for collection and drop off when the weather allows. We ask parents NOT to park illegally at the school entrance. Children must be seated in the back seat with seat belts in place before entering or leaving the school grounds. 


The annual report for 2015/16 is now posted on the school blog . It confirms all details of classes and holidays for the coming school year.



Homework from next Monday must be signed by parents each night. MAXIMUM Times for homework are 1 hour 5th /6th  ,40 minutes 3rd/.4th-30 minutes ,1st /2nd and 20 minutes infant classes. No child is expected to exceed these times for any reason once parents have signed that the child  has made the appropriate effort . Homework is a general rule divided into 3 sections  writing , learning and reading  all of which should be allocated the same approximate time . When you sign the journal  you are saying you are satisfied that an appropriate effort has been put in by your child .


Our school is a Catholic School and religion taught is based on the Catholic Faith .Parents /Guardians of Non Catholic pupils may send an activity to occupy their child for religious instruction time / catholic services time which amounts to 2hours 30minutes per week An activity might be a colouring book , a workbook , book for reading /puzzles etc… During prayers etc… non Catholic children are excused from any participation / involvement .Parents should advise their own child accordingly .


Registration for all afterschool classes takes place next Monday between 1:30 and 3pm in the school hall. Check Blog for detail do not contact the office regarding after school activities .

All Books etc…all provided covered and labelled as in previous years. Payment €100 before the end of September. This €100 covers all expenses throughout the year including bus outings, drama, art supplies, tests and personal accident insurance .Payment by instalment can be arranged by arrangement with the principal.

Your child should be happy at school .Please contact Mr. Conlon immediately with ANY worries or concerns, the sooner the better especially if any bullying is suspected. Most small problems are easily fixed when notified in time .


Parents who have signed up for communication by e mail for reports will receive this note by e mail only from next week . We would really like if as many parents as possible would try this out to help the transfer of information as many households do not appear to get messages / notes  from school .


Parents / Guardians will also this year receive individual text messages / e mails informing them if a child is unwell / arriving late or absent without an explanation . Texts cannot be replied to and a note or e mail response is required in response.
