6th class visit Carrowmore tombs September 13th

Sixth class visited Carrowmore tombs on Wednesday the thirteenth of September. Here are some of the very interesting information we learned. Carrowmore Tombs are older then Newgrange and The Great Pyramids in Egypt. These tombs date back to 5000 to 6000 years ago. There are many burial places spread out over one square kilometer. There was as many as 30 bodies cremated and buried in one tomb. People were buried with their goods. Some of these artifacts have been found including arrow heads, axe heads, jewelry and other belongings. Unfortunately some of the tombs have been destroyed by locals taking away the stones to make ditches and raods. When the people realised the significance of the tombs they stopped taking the stones away.
